Two noteworthy buildings stand on the Ria de Alvor (Alvor Estuary): the old fish market (or “Lota”), a meeting point and place of communal living, and the former lifeboat building called “Edifício de Socorro a Náufragos”, which today houses a lifeboat from the 1920s that was responsible for saving many lives on this bar.
