The Forte e Feio Restaurant first
opened for business in 1996 in a very old building in Largo da Barca Square
that was originally one of the dockside warehouses. The stone walls and wooden
beams have been preserved, enhancing the sense of bygone days and providing an
ambience replete with charm and tradition.
Characteristic of the restaurants in
Portimão, fresh fish takes pride of place on the menu at the Forte e
Feio. It comes fresh from the daily fish auction in Portimão and the
quality and variety are second to none.
Apart from the charcoal-grilled fresh
fish, among which the famous Portimão sardines reign supreme, there are
many other gems from Portimão’s vast gastronomy for you to sample. Try the
maize porridge with cockles, the razor-clam soup, the bean and whelk stew, the
battered sardines and the skate cooked in garlic and olive oil.
The desserts are every bit as
traditional and you can round off your meal with a delicious sweet such as
honey and walnut ensopado, peanut mousse or fig dessert.
Enjoying a typical and peaceful setting,
this restaurant in Portimão has its own unique identity, enhanced by the
quality of the cuisine and the friendly, professional and bilingual service.
At the Forte e Feio Restaurant,
you can expect typical Portimão cuisine, a family ambience, and an
architecturally interesting setting that seeks to preserve its historical
heritage and maintain the link with the activities that were part of daily life
in bygone days in Largo da Barca.
