This famous restaurant in Portimão opened
in Largo da Barca Square in 1980. The owners come from families who, in bygone
days, used to buy fish in the old warehouses, and the fish is grilled over
charcoal by former fishermen who handle the day’s catch with masses of
experience and expertise.
So it hardly surprising that the Dona
Barca Restaurant has won a number of culinary awards, which only serves to
prove the impeccable quality of everything that you might eat there. Among the
typical Algarve dishes on the menu, and which are made to recipes handed
down from generation to generation, we would highlight the fried fish with
broad beans or tomato rice, the cataplanas, the baby squid Algarve style
and, of course, the barbecued sardines.
The desserts are a celebration of the
sweet flavours of the Algarve, such as figs, almonds and egg-based desserts.
The ambience at the Dona Barca
Restaurant is very relaxed and casual. The décor features fishing nets and
old photos to make you feel welcome in this, one of the best-known restaurants
in Portimão. You will surely find that the flavours and service clearly
justify the reputation it has earned over more than 30 years.
