The Alvor marabouts are small square constructions with an Arab-influenced dome. They were intended to celebrate masses and as homage to the Muslim holy men or saints. The three marabouts in Alvor are the only Muslim places of worship that still exist in the Portimão region, despite being adapted for use as Christian chapels.
